What's the difference between the above two theory workbooks? They both cover the same theory content.
Violin Star Theory – is more suited to younger violin students, with cartoon sketches on the pages.
ABRSM Grade 1 Theory – is more suited to older violin students, without cartoon drawings on the pages.
Learning the theory by working through the workbook will make everything you learn on violin so much clearer - just like fitting the last piece of a jigsaw!
🎼🎵 🎼 🎵 🎼 🎵 🎼 🎵 🎼 🎵
Both of the above violin books cover the same beginner level of learning, teaching the 4 Open Strings, 1st, 2nd and 3rd finger notes, along with 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures using rhythms made up of crotchets, quavers, minims and dotted minims.
Both books are specifically designed for younger violin learners, with cartoon sketches on the pages to make for a fun learning experience throughout. Both violin books contain play along audio tracks with every piece of music and exercise, and this really makes learning from these books incredibly good fun.
Violin Star Violin Book 1 – Look at the following 9 images from the Violin Star Book 1, and remember every piece has a practise play along audio track and backing track too.
Have a look now at the Fiddle Time Joggers violin book.
Fiddle Time Joggers is also specifically designed for younger violin learners, with cartoon sketches. It also contains play along audio tracks with every piece of music and exercise.
Fiddle Time Joggers Violin Book – Look at the following set of images from it.
Summary of the Teaching Approach of both the above violin books:
Both beginner violin books are designed to be used as structured teaching manuals for violin teachers working with younger students. They are not intended to function as self-teaching guides.
A violin teacher is essential for guiding the student through the material, demonstrating techniques, explaining concepts clearly, and ensuring correct posture and development from the very beginning.
It is also highly beneficial for students to learn music theory alongside their practical violin lessons using the recommended workbooks. Understanding theory makes everything learned on the violin clearer and more meaningful — like placing the final piece into a jigsaw puzzle.
